Surrogacy Information

On the 01st April 2010, the world of surrogacy changed fundamentally with the introduction of the new Children’s Act.  Before the introduction of the new Children’s Act, surrogacy in South Africa had no formal legislation governing it and intended parents and surrogate mothers were left pretty much out in the cold.  The new act now clearly and unequivocally defines and protects the rights of the surrogate mother, the intended parents and most importantly, the rights of the unborn child.

It is against this background that Nurture founded the Surrogacy Advisory Group, the country’s first non-profit surrogacy support program, offering support and advice to our wonderful surrogate mothers and our hopeful intended parents.

We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Melanie Novitzkas as curator of the Surrogacy Advisory Group.  Melanie has a long and very successful history of running charity organisations and non-profit outreach programs and we are honoured to have her take care of this very special program.  A trained doula herself, Melanie has a passion for parents and babies and is looking very forward to supporting surrogate mothers and intended parents through this wonderful surrogacy journey.  Melanie lives in Somerset West with her husband and three children.
